After surpassing Singapore in 2010 in container throughput, Shanghai remains the top one in container throughput. In 2011, Shanghai port handled 31.5 million TEU, Singapore handled 29.94 million TEU while the third place, Hong Kong handled 24.4 million TEU. Among ten of the busiest terminals worldwide, six are from China which spotlights the importance role of China still playing in world container trade.
